Breeds — Berner Sennenhund

The peasants, artificers and trades people in Switzerland since the beginning of time have been keeping this breed of dog, they were a part of household and were used as guard and herding dogs, and were put into cart for cargo transportation, if required.

The problems such as mental disorders, invariable behavior and uncontrolled temper did not exist.

The morals and manners were severe: if dog was not a trustworthy guard, it was aggressive against other domestic animals or was not strong enough to carry the cargo its days were numbered.  

Nobody needed the useless mouths to feed.

Robust health of Bernese mountain dog is conditioned by tough natural selection passed by them at the farms.

Bernese mountain dogs were kept outdoor, dietary intake was monotonous and scant.  

The dogs lived until they could benefit their owner.  

The strongest survive in such conditions passing on from one generation to another the strong immunity.

Today's Bernese mountain dog is the extraordinary "weather-proof" dog and it is capable of great endurance.

Average life of Bernese mountain dog is rather high.
